A Summer Wedding At Funk’s Grove
Hello readers! Well, it’s not everyday that a girl gets to write a blog post about her own wedding, but here we go! My now-husband Michael and I had our ceremony at the beautiful Funk’s Grove, Chapel in the Trees in McLean, IL with a reception to follow at the Come Together Space in Bloomington. The Come Together Space is an art venue owned by my friends Matt Erickson and Lisa Lofgren, local artists and community activists. It hosts gallery exhibition space, artists’ studios, and serves as an event center. On this particular weekend, it was our reception venue! It was important to us to have our wedding reception here for a few reasons. Matt, Lisa and their philosophy with the Come Together Space have played a essential role in our lives by providing me with opportunity after opportunity in forging my path as an artist within our community. Some of our first dates also included going to music and art shows here.
We were extraordinarily grateful for the temperate weather, partly cloudy skies and zero wind since our ceremony was outdoors in the Chapel in the Trees. We couldn’t have imagined having our ceremony anywhere else except Funk’s Grove. We frequent there to hike and enjoy nature. What better place for your wedding? It was truly a gorgeous day.
Speaking of artistic talent, many of our friends are very talented individuals that literally made this day happen. Firstly, my dear friend Kayli Kaufmann made my dress! I thought she did a fantastic job. Kayli also did me the honors by being my flower girl. Her dad and our good friend, Jack, performed during the ceremony and cocktail hour. Jack and I perform together every once in a while, and I absolutely wanted to surprise Mike with a love song during the cocktail hour. It was such an honor to sing for Michael, our friends and family! And to pull it all together, I asked our guests in advance to send us some artwork. The week of the wedding, Matt hung all of the artwork to exhibit and we had an art show for our wedding reception! And, of course, Mark Romine and his wonderful assistant Shannon provided us with the beautiful photographs that you’re about to enjoy. Even the wreaths at our ceremony, woven from aspen branches from Southern Illinois, were constructed by my friend Bridget. As any married couple can tell you, there are simply too many people to thank that put the necessary hard work and time into the planning and execution of your wedding day. Thank you to all our friends and family!
Food was also VERY important to both Michael and I, which is why we decided on Epiphany Farms. Not only is their food delicious, it comes from less than 20 miles away at their local, organic farm.
And let’s not forget entertainment. Sarah Jane and the Blue Notes served as our band for the evening. Hailing from St. Louis, they supplied us with classic jazz and blues tunes to dance the night away. They were truly special and made the evening perfect.
Since many of our guests came from out of town, we wanted to provide them with a truly unique, central Illinois experience. Therefore, for our wedding day, it was our hope to share the best parts of our life here in Bloomington.
Thank you so much to all of our loved ones, our vendors, and of course to Mark and Shannon for capturing some great images.
